Meet our Nun! Ani Karma Ngawang Choden - Nalandabodhi Connecticut

Meet our Nun! Ani Karma Ngawang Choden

In 2014, as an 80th birthday gift to Khenpo Rinpoche, and at the request of our teacher Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, Nalandabodhi Connecticut pledged to sponsor one of his nuns for at least three years.  We are now in our sixth year of support. Our nun is Ani Karma Ngawang Choden, born in 1995, so she is 25 years old this year. (Ani means “nun.”) She is from Tsirang, Bhutan.  She is at the Karma Drubdey nunnery in central Bhutan.  At that nunnery there are over 100 nuns living, studying and practicing dharma.

Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche is the root teacher of  Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche.  For many years, Khenpo Rinpoche has put much love and attention in supporting female monastic practitioners. He has exerted careful effort in establishing study and practice opportunities in nunneries, shedras (monastic colleges), and three-year retreats, which are traditionally and commonly only offered to male practitioners. If there was ever a great example of how to practice equanimity, Khenpo Rinpoche is it!

You can read more here.  (Although you can donate directly on that page, please donate here so it counts towards our annual sponsorship commitment.)

Please join us in supporting Ani Karma Ngawang in 2020!  The cost for one year for all of her needs is only $720. Your donation (made by NBCT through Marpa Foundation) is tax-deductible. For information on how to donate, go to our donate page.
