During times of great disruption it is easy to slip into destructive habits – fear, denial, confusion, negativity, short temper or a sense of righteousness. All these guests appear when we feel threatened. When we are locked in these strong emotions we cannot see that everything that appears has a single ground – Buddha nature. We do not see that there are two paths – delusion and non delusion and two different results – samsara and nirvana. We see only one – samsara. What is the antidote to our delusion? A “lullaby to awaken the heart”, as Mitra Dean Karl Brunnhölzl aptly describes The Aspiration Prayer of Samantabhadra. What better time to remind ourselves of its power than during this time of enormous change?
Nalandabodhi Seattle is delighted to offer a series of teachings by Mitra Dean Karl based on his recently published book “A Lullaby to Awaken the Heart” (2018). In four online teaching sessions (October 6, 13, 20 & 27), he will share the in-depth meaning and symbolism of each stanza of this powerful aspiration prayer. There will be plenty of time for discussion and questions.
NOTE: Times listed here at NBCT’s website are EDT. At the Seattle website where you can register, the times listed are PDT.
Since each teaching will build on the previous session, you are encouraged to register for the entire series. Each teaching will be recorded and will be available to registered participants between classes if you miss a class or simply want to review.
